Perth Training and Obedience Dog Club

Perth Training and Obedience Dog Club (PTODC) is a long-established not-for-profit community club focused on helping dog owners build reliable, well-mannered companion dogs through positive, science-based training. Founded in 1973, the club welcomes handlers and dogs of all breeds and skill levels and emphasizes leadership, trust and cooperation to create strong owner–dog bonds. PTODC offers structured obedience classes that teach polite behaviour and socialisation skills so dogs can behave appropriately in everyday situations, and agility classes that provide a fun, engaging sport for teams from beginners through to those pursuing competition; agility participation requires dogs to be at least 12 months old with basic obedience skills. Beyond weekly classes, the club organises and conducts trials and competitions sanctioned by national bodies and affiliated organisations, providing opportunities for handlers to test skills, gain experience and engage in the wider dog-sport community. Throughout its activities the club promotes responsible pet ownership and positive training approaches, helping owners develop consistent handling and clear communication with their dogs. As a community-based organisation, PTODC’s programs are geared toward practical training outcomes, socialisation and ongoing development for both pet owners and competitive handlers, making it a resource for anyone seeking hands-on guidance in obedience and agility and for those interested in participating in formal trials.
