The Australian Animal Protection Society (AAPS) is a long-established community-based charity founded in 1972 and based in Keysborough, Victoria, dedicated to animal welfare and rehoming. AAPS runs an animal shelter with a no-kill approach and focuses on rescuing and finding loving, permanent homes for dogs, cats and rabbits while accepting other animals in need. They rely on volunteers and community support and work with partner organisations to provide a broad range of hands-on care and services. AAPS operates veterinary clinics to care for animals in their care, grooming salons to maintain animal health and hygiene, cat boarding facilities for owners needing short-term care, and a foster care program that provides temporary homes until animals are adopted. They also run Puppy Pre School, a four-week course designed to give young dogs a strong start with socialisation and basic training. The society supports surrendered animals through a formal process and promotes responsible pet ownership through educational resources, community events, fundraising and op shops that help fund their programs. Overall, AAPS combines sheltering, medical care, grooming, training and community engagement to support animal welfare and help pets find appropriate forever homes.
