Act of Dog

Act of Dog is a Melbourne-based dog training and behaviour consultancy that helps guardians build trusting, compassionate relationships with their dogs. Led by founder Cam Barclay—who is a certified canine coach through the Karen Pryor Academy and a Behaviour Adjustment Trainer—Act of Dog focuses on understanding dog body language and tailoring practical, humane plans to each dog and household. The service flow begins with a free 10-minute introductory call and a Book a Consultation to review a dog’s history and behaviour, followed by personalised training and management plans. Their “Let’s Progress” follow-up option supports owners through step-by-step work, whether for independent practice or additional hands-on guidance for more complex issues. Specialist behavioural support addresses aggression (dog-directed, human-directed, and inter-dog household issues), impulse control, and resource guarding, while the broader approach emphasises calmness, confidence, mental stimulation and consistent communication. Cam’s experience includes work in shelters and boarding kennels, and the practice places importance on recognising dogs’ emotions—such as fear, frustration and anxiety—and responding with understanding rather than force. Overall, Act of Dog aims to equip guardians with tools, ongoing support and tailored strategies to improve behaviour, strengthen bonds and foster a cooperative, trust-based partnership with their dogs.
